VINTAGE NOTES
Significant rain in December and relatively dry, mild conditions through March provided an early bud break. Alternating warm and cool conditions after March led to steady summer conditions that prevailed until the first week of September when temperatures rose significantly. Cooler weather after the heat spell allowed many of our hillside and south valley vineyards to recover from the heat and were harvested in great condition. Overall quality is excellent with wines showing a broad spectrum of aromas and flavors.

VINEYARD SOURCES
Proprietary Red displays the blending prowess of our winemaking team. Utilizing all five of the classic Bordeaux varieties from an array of our top vineyards, this handcrafted wine illustrates why the combination of complex terroirs, and the five noble Bordeaux varieties create such a vivid illustration of the Napa Valley and the vintage. The 2022 Proprietary Red features grapes from a combination of our valley floor, hillside and mountain vineyards.

WINEMAKER NOTES
The Proprietary Red designation enables our winemakers to find the best blend each year working with the five classic Bordeaux varieties. In 2022, the blend is 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 19% Malbec, 15% Petit Verdot and 6% Cabernet Franc. These grapes were fermented in 40% French oak barriques of which 50% were new and 60% in stainless steel tanks. The wine was then aged for 18 months in French oak barriques of which 30% were new.

NOSE: Forward, ripe aromas of dark cherry, plum and cassis accented by notes of fennel, purple flowers and sweet tobacco.
PALATE: Medium full-bodied, broad bright flavors of cherry, mulberry and red currant are further enhanced by flavors of tobacco and graham cracker.
