ABOUT THE VINEYARD
The Tench family arrived in the Napa Valley in 1848 and started the Napa Journal newspaper. When John Tench bought 60 acres in Oakville in 1965, his first inclination was to raise cattle, his ancestors had bred some of the first Hereford cows in Shropshire, England in the 19th century. John quickly realized greater potential with grapes.
An ancient volcanic landslide that began in Atlas Peak and slid down to the eastern edge of the Oakville appellation was the genesis of Tench Vineyard and its remarkable terroir, a beautiful reddish gold mixture of volcanic rock mixed with valley floor loams.
Perfectly situated between Screaming Eagle and Rudd Estate, Tench Vineyard has been a source of numerous 100-point wines for a small list of Napa Valley’s finest wineries. Alpha Omega has been a recipient since 2019.
Today, the property is sustainably farmed by fourth generation family member Margaret Tench and Rem Reigersman, who walk the vineyard daily.
VINTAGE NOTES
2023 is an exceptional, high-quality vintage marked by one of the longest growing seasons in over a decade. Significant winter and spring rains led to a mild summer and overall cooler weather throughout the growing season aided by abundant sunshine which allowed grapes to develop slowly and evenly. The extended hang time has produced wines with remarkably complex flavors and excellent aging potential.
WINEMAKING
This wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. After optical sorting, grapes were barrel fermented in 100% new French oak barriques. The wine was aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak barriques and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
