“Leaving the world a better place for future generations
means adhering to sustainable practices now.”
Robin Baggett

Alpha Omega Solar Array

Sustainably has been one of Alpha Omega’s core values since the winery’s inception in 2006.

Robin and Michelle Baggett have been pioneers in utilizing solar power for winery facilities. In 2016, the completion of a 400-kilowatt (kW) solar and 580 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery microgrid system provided by five solar arrays that serve as shade structures that included a first-of-its kind, fully integrated solar and battery facility back-up power system.

Water reclamation has a shared importance. In 2009, a Lyve System from New Zealand was installed at Alpha Omega to process domestic and winery wastewater into reusable clean water. The dramatic impact of this system resulted in the processing of 11 million gallons of wastewater in its first twelve years.

In addition to their sustainable efforts at the winery, Robin and Michelle have also been staunch supporters of the Land Trust of Napa County for many years.   Robin Baggett is currently serving as Chairman of the Board in his 5th term with the Land Trust. The Land Trust of Napa County works cooperatively with landowners and the community to protect agricultural land, water resources, wildlife and wildlife corridors, scenic open space, forests, ranches, wildflower meadows and native biodiversity throughout Napa County. They permanently protect land through conservation easements that limit future development.

In 2017, Vintners Robin and Michelle Baggett donated the largest contiguous acreage agricultural conservation easement in the history of the Land Trust of Napa County, Monticello Ranch next to Berryessa Snow Mountain Monument and other protected lands, totaling 4,461 acres in addition to preserving two miles of shore of Lake Berryessa.

Alpha Omega sign and Napa Green certification

Alpha Omega's sustainability endeavors have been recognized since 2017 by Napa Green, one of only four sustainable winegrowing programs nationwide offering the opportunity for comprehensive soil to bottle certification for both the vineyard and winery. Only 90 wineries in the Napa Valley have received Napa Green Winery certification, implementing more than 120 sustainability and stewardship standards to:

  • Save energy and water and increase efficiency
  • Prevent waste through recycling, composting and environmentally preferable purchasing
  • Reduce GHG emissions and the winery’s carbon footprint
  • Commit to social equity
  • The whole facility is certified from production to administration to hospitality

As an agricultural focused company, Alpha Omega is committed to becoming carbon neutral while being responsible members of our community.

Our winemaking and vineyard management teams continue to research and implement new environmentally responsible practices that will positively impact the Napa Valley for generations to come.

Alpha Omega is a member of these organizations that have the same vision and philosophy we do regarding our shared responsibility in preserving the Napa Valley.
