Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2021
VINTAGE NOTES
Late winter rains followed by ideal spring growing conditions set the stage for the 2021 vintage. Mild temperatures punctuated this drought year with only a few heat spikes during the summer months that led to early ripening and allowed us to harvest some early blocks with incredible old-world charm and intriguing complexity. Grapes that were harvested later benefited from the longer hang time and ripened perfectly, displaying great depth with distinct regional character. The ideal weather of 2021, coupled with lower yields, produced wines that offer intense aromatics and flavors with excellent aging potential.
VINEYARD SOURCES
Our Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2021 was handcrafted from a collection of vineyards that celebrate the diversity of terroirs in Napa Valley. This wine showcases a range of Napa Valley sub-AVA’s that include mountain grown grapes from Atlas Peak, Mount Veeder and Spring Mountain, hillside grown grapes from Rutherford and valley floor grown grapes from Oak Knoll District, Coombsville, Oakville and St. Helena. The combination of these vineyards creates an evocative sense of place that could only be Napa Valley.
WINEMAKING
Our winemakers blended 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec and 2% Merlot to create this structured, ageable wine. The wine was fermented in 25% French oak, 30% new and 70% two and three-year old-barriques and 75% in stainless steel tanks followed by aging for 21 months in French oak in the same barrel composition.
Sight: Deep ruby red with a crimson rim
Nose: Classic fruit notes of cassis, black cherry and plum are intermixed with notes of kirsch liqueur, anise, graphite, peppercorn, baking spices and dark earth.
Palate: Youthful, concentrated, full bodied flavors of blackberry and pomegranate join with impressions of cured meats, cedar and dark chocolate that evolve to a long powerful finish.
