Robin and Michelle Baggett, vintners and growers from San Luis Obispo, began their journey in 2005 to establish a wine estate in Napa Valley comparable to the finest in this wine region. In October of 2005, they found the perfect setting, located on Highway 29 in Rutherford in the heart of Napa Valley. Alpha Omega opened its doors to the world in 2006. The Baggett’s quest was threefold, to create a wine estate that evokes a sense of place that is Napa Valley where wine enthusiasts find themselves in a convivial atmosphere with generous hospitality, while sampling handcrafted wines in keeping with the most acclaimed wineries in the Napa Valley.
Alpha Omega’s winery architecture was designed to resonate with the agricultural landscape that surrounds the property. This farm style winery is inclusive of modern elements with its magnificent tasting room boasting high ceilings with exposed wood beams and large windows with impressive views. Each private tasting room offers unique highly designed surroundings with walls adorned with art from local Napa artists. The barrel cellar with it’s rustic chandeliers and rolling glass doors display the detail and precision of each French oak barrel where our finest wines age.
The picturesque setting outside is highlighted by luxurious patio seating with views of Alpha Omega’s landmark water fountains and reflecting pond, stunning vineyards and the statuesque Mayacamas Mountains. Today, a warm staff of well-trained wine educators, a postcard-worthy setting and the modern farm-style architecture of the winery, paired with remarkable wines is the realized vision the Baggetts conceived when they originally toured the valley in 2005.
From the beginning, the Baggetts’ relationships in the valley with heralded grape growers like Andy Beckstoffer and Lee Hudson afforded the opportunity to procure grapes from some of the most prized and historical vineyards throughout the Napa Valley, names like To Kalon, Georges III and Dr. Crane while also developing several of their own vineyards. Sparing no expense on grapes, the Baggetts also enlisted the help of world-renowned wine making consultants like Michel Rolland to add his expertise and experience to Alpha Omega’s already compelling wines.
Melissa Paris is the first woman winemaker at Alpha Omega. Melissa received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Viticulture with a concentration in Enology from Cal Poly University San Luis Obispo, a top five viticultural program in the US. Melissa worked harvests for five years with reknowned winemaking teams in Australia, New Zealand and California that included Penfolds Winery in Australia and Tolosa Winery in San Luis Obispo.
Melissa joined the winemaking team at Alpha Omega in 2020. In addition to making final blend decisions across all Alpha Omega wines, she implemented state of the art lab technology and advanced protocols for cellar and bottling operations, which led to her promotion to Winemaker in July 2024. Continually seeking to improve her winemaking skills and expertise, Melissa is an active participant in an all-female peer tasting group. A recipient of the The Patrick Foley Inclusive Excellence Scholarship two years in a row, Melissa will receive her Global Wine Executive MBA from Sonoma State University in March 2025.
Today, Alpha Omega continues to push forward, vintage after vintage, by constantly improving its wine, visitor experience and surroundings — the crux of Alpha Omega from the beginning and forever to the end.
