Houyi (pronounced who–yee) was a mythical Chinese archer who saved the Earth from the sudden appearance of ten suns in the sky by shooting down nine of them. Houyi Vineyard is in the Pritchard Hill region, east of Rutherford in the heart of the Vaca Mountains. Viticulture in Pritchard Hill dates to 1890's and Charles Pritchard’s small Zinfandel and Riesling vineyard, the region now produces some of Napa Valley’s most compelling wines. The Chang family began developing the 22-acre Houyi vineyard in 2010. Perched at 1,300 feet, Houyi is a dramatic, south facing, rock strewn vineyard accentuated by warm, sunny afternoons.
